One of my favourite places for breakfast is the Deep Blue Café at Moana. Located on the Esplanade, the café is a bit tardis like, as it’s much bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside, but it has a very chilled out, relaxed vibe. The staff are very friendly and attentive, and there is a reasonably priced and varied breakfast menu.
In the interests of research I have tried a few of the breakfast items on the menu, and my favourite is the ‘French Toast with bacon, seasonal fruits and maple syrup’. If you ask nicely they will also add a dollop of ice cream to this breakfast, which might seem weird but I like it.
If you are really hungry then you must go for the ‘Deep Blue Big Brekky’, which consists of two poached eggs with hollandaise, bacon, chipolatas, potato cake, tomatoes, mushrooms and ciabata toast. Be warned though, it is extremely filling, and you may not be able to move afterwards!
The ‘Pancake Stack’ is also delicious, and you get a really decent amount of maple syrup, which is great as there is nothing worse than skimpy servings, and I like my pancakes to be drowning in the stuff. Eggs Benedict, Eggs Florentine, Raisin Toast, and House Muesli are some of the other choices available.
If you can’t make it for breakfast, the Deep Blue also serves lunch and dinner, as well as some delicious cakes all day. On weekdays they have a Lunch Specials menu, which is a bit cheaper than their main menu. It’s a shame they don’t offer the specials on the weekends as well, as they are a hit with the customers. A takeaway menu is available if you want to eat on the run, or sit on a table by the beach with your fish and chips.
The Deep Blue café is a great place to eat and chill out, and after that big brekky the beach is there for you to walk off some of those calories.
